Personally I love the traditional ways of communicating, I write to a prisoner on death row in America frequently. To be fair, that's probably the only way I can communicate with him, it's not as if I can pick up the phone and have a chat with a murderer.. But I love writing to him, There's something sentimental and personal about it, something you can touch and hold in front of you rather than it being on a screen, it doesn't really have the same effect. It may be quicker to type and send something online but it's not personal is it? Something so simple as handwriting can show personality. I suppose some people don't think about things like that, they just think about convenience nowadays.. It's a shame.
Even though I'm part of the so called 'Generation of idiots' I don't think that I've been affected as much as others.. Once upon a time a phone had only one function, to talk to someone, but now we sit at dinner tables and in restaurants browsing our phones, texting and playing games instead of being sociable with those in our company. It does annoy me when people do that, I have a phone and if there is nothing to do, yes, I will get it out and pointlessly browse, but there's a line. My boyfriend does this, he's not as bad as some people I know who think reality doesn't exist any more.. Cough, My step-dad. But I wish he would put his phone down every now and again and talk to me without worrying about notifications etc. Sorry I had to pick on you Jim, but you are my closest example ;-) In all honesty he has just got a new phone and is fascinated by it.
Lee Evans actually did a sketch on Modern Technology and teenagers. Funny but true. He said that soon kids won't know how to communicate normally, and instead will walk past each other on the street and 'type into thin air' and they'll understand each other. People talk so comfortably with each other online even if they haven't met each other, but when It comes to meeting them face to face they freeze and the awkwardness kicks in. There is hardly an awkwardness online... Sooner or later I think that people won't be able to cope with normal situations around people, they'll just panic, being too familiar with chatting on Facebook or Twitter.
In terms of idiots, I do think that there are more than there have been in previous decades, with the typical fake pregnant girl wearing Salon uniform you see walking through Harlow with a Blackberry in one hand and a cigarette in the other.. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't even be able to count to ten. If all else fails, Do a beauty course at Harlow College, That's their answer. The reason why they have failed is because they are too focused on making themselves look as fake as possible for those chav like males whilst bbm-ing them. This just reminds me of a line Jim always uses, In a Chavvy Essex accent he'll say 'What's your bb babes?' Makes me feel sick lol.. But anyway, I'm slightly going off course talking about 'Fakeness'..
Overall Technology has probably had more positive impacts than negative, although it has ruined the young people of today without a doubt.
